Services Provided

  • Mapping of the landslide body and adjacent areas using seismic vibrometry.
  • Implementation and installation of an early warning system with two seismometer stations.
  • Operational monitoring of the landslide using seismic interferometry.

Project Description

The loose rock slide in the Wagenrunse near Schwanden (GL) led to several debris flow events in 2023, causing significant damage in the village of Schwanden. To detect potential further damage events, seismic monitoring was employed in addition to established methods such as deformation and pore water measurements.

As part of this initiative, Spektrum Geophysik AG was commissioned to establish and operate a seismic monitoring and early warning system. Using seismic interferometry, the system has since been recording relative changes in shear wave velocity, which are directly related to material strength. This enables the detection of a decrease in the strength of the landslide mass. The measurement data is transmitted in real time and visualized in a web-based data portal. In addition, if predefined thresholds are not met, an automatic notification is sent to enable early action.
